December's Resource in the Limelight

"Jewish Family Services (JFS) is a mental health and social services agency, not a religious organization. For 65 years JFS has welcomed anyone through their doors regardless of race, ethnicity, religion or the ability to pay. JFS provides a clinical, therapeutic service to address personal emotional crises and/or personal difficulties through individual, family, marriage or group counseling. They also  offer care management. All JFS support groups and therapeutic groups are facilitated by a licensed professional: social worker, therapist, counselor, or psychologist. Many groups are offered at no charge. Any group for which there is a charge is offered on a sliding-fee scale, and no one is ever denied service due to an inability to pay.

JFS has a Breast Cancer Support Group for women who have had a diagnosis of breast cancer at any time in their lives.  They have one-on-one counseling for women who have been diagnosed with breast cancer and will provide in-home one-on-one counseling for those women whose illness limits their mobility. JFS has other support groups including grief support group, caregivers support group, and chronic pain support group.

JFS provides a wide spectrum of services to help older adults remain independent in their communities for as long as they can function safely and effectively. These services include offering the availability of community Chaplains of any faith, delivering Kosher meals to seniors’ homes, counseling for adult children, personal resource organizers to help organize and file paperwork, home visitation program, assessment and care management, psychiatric assessment, and referral to community resources.

JFS has emergency services including a food pantry providing food for qualified families and individuals in North Dallas and Carrollton (see https://jfsdallas.org/services/emergency-food-pantry/ for zip codes). They also have case management for people who come to the pantry.
