Those who were able to attend Tuesday's meeting learned about resiliency, gratitude and self-care. Our wonderful president-elect, Tam Burks, shared a month of self-care activities (attached).
Oxford dictionaries defines self-care as the practice of taking action to preserve or improve one's own health. This includes physical, emotional and spiritual health. Self-care can help you in many ways:
- reduce and manage stress and anxiety
- improve your cognitive function and performance
- boost your immune system and lower your risk of illness
- foster resilience and decrease burnout
- increase quality time with family, friends and patients
Remember what the flight attendants always say: “put your oxygen mask on first,” before helping others". You can't help anyone else if you're not at your best.
November is a month of gratitude. It's ok to be grateful for YOU. Take some time every day to honor you. It doesn't have to be a grand or time consuming act. We challenge you to start your self-care practice this month.
