Community Outreach
As oncology healthcare professionals, we have a duty to raise awareness and educate our community about preventable cancers and early detection. Community outreach is a wonderful way to teach and provide resources related to cancer prevention and screening. It's also the perfect time to clear up myths and contradictions people have heard in the news or from others. There are many websites that have free cancer prevention materials, promotional materials and event guidance. See those listed later in this post.
See Community Outreach Tips for tips on planning, preparing and implementing community outreach.
When spending the time to plan, use creative and diverse education methods, collaborating with a multidisciplinary team, and having structured systems in place for capturing metrics, a community outreach event can be an attainable and worthy goal.
