Spotlight on Cancer and Young Adults
Adolescent and Young Adults (AYA) are people between the ages of 15 to 39 who are diagnosed and are living with cancer. Cancer is the 4th leading cause of death in adults ages 20-39, behind only accidents, suicide, and homicide. It’s the leading cause of death from disease among females in this age group, and is second only to heart disease among males. Diagnosis is often delayed and many cancers, such as colorectal and breast cancers, are on the rise in this age group. Other common cancers include cervical cancer, melanoma, thyroid cancer and testicular cancer. – from ACS and NCI.
